This portrait of England's "Virgin Queen" (Cate Blanchett) is a lush, romantic political thriller about the tumultuous reign of Elizabeth I, whose love for the dashing and duplicitous Earl of Leicester interferes with her duties to her troubled country, which could benefit from a political marriage to a French or Spanish nobleman. Joseph Fiennes, Geoffrey Rush.
